Yes, this is one of the things that I follow, preach, teach and always ready to boast and spread awareness about. What we have done in past (e.g., education, relationships, learning, etc.) is that which affects us today, and whatever we will today will surely have an impact on our future. So if we cannot change things that we have done in past, why not do something today that can be fruitful and beneficial for our future? So my first point is clear that if we live life for today and do things in the manner as they are supposed to be done than we don’t have to worry about our future.
I have seen people who regret their past and worry a lot for their future; they are somehow missing the fun and cherishing moments that can be availed today. Take an example from the current natural calamity in Japan; people living there wouldn’t have ever imagined the current scenario even in their worst dreams. So what they are living in right now is “Today”. They are short of options of how and where to live, but they have to live it and live it in “Today’s” form. So live life for today, because future is uncertain and today is what we have right in front and in our hands.
There is a famous quote by James Dean that “Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.” Correctly said we don’t know what future holds for us, but we know that what we are holding for us “Today”. So hold it tight and hold it right, and let everything happen. Don’t you think it’s silly to worry about things that we don’t know?
I live for today and believe me I am 23 years old (I think my life experience is not too short) and not had anything that I have worried about. Seen many ups and downs but still living in and for today.
I will repeat my first point; if you live in today, it will impact your future. So I am living in “Today” writing an essay for “Google”, and if got selected, will work in one of the largest companies on this planet and so my future is in my hands, and it’s “TODAY”.
